Hardwell @ Electric Zoo NY 2012 [REVIEW]

After an amazing 2012 year for the dutch DJ with big beats like “Spaceman,” “Kontiki,” and “How We Do,” I had high hopes coming into E-Zoo that Hardwell would have a monster performance. Especially after the amazing feedback he received for his set at Ultra. Coming off  the heels of a Nicky Romero’s set, the crowd was hot and anxious for another banging show.

To no-ones surprise, Hardwell started off his set with his own “Spaceman.” Then a few more mainstream tracks such as a Disco Fries bootleg to “Silhouettes” and “Calling.” Hits like these were a bit of a disappointment but at this day and age you can expect to hear them in most sets at big festivals. The dutchman brought the most energy to the crowd when he dropped Zero 76 with vocals from “The Island,” and thats when the real bangers started to come out….

Another bright moment in his set  was when the crowd went bonkers to Sander van Doorn & Julian Jordan’s “Kangaroo” mashed up with with Skrillex’s “Scary Monsters.” Bootlegs like that and  “Who’s Ready For iRok (Hardwell MashUp)” took the set from more of a mainstream feel to a raging zoo. This is why Hardwell has become so popular amongst the masses while maintaining his signature feel for the music. Even though he began his set with the mainstream hits, he made up for it with hard hitting bangers and for the most part it was a very enjoyable set.
