Tiesto goes deep in latest Essential Mix (01.02.14)

If you were too distracted by a rather disappointing Super Bowl or this defiant snow storm, then it’s time to get your week going in the right direction. We can’t think of a better way to do that than by jamming out to Tiesto’s Essential Mix from this past weekend. His first such mix since 2005, dance music fans all across the world could not have been happier about his return to BBC Radio 1′s highly praised show.

With his name alone, Tiesto attracts a vast amount of anticipation and excitement, but this mix has all of us amazed as he chose to veer off the progressive path he has been on lately. Tijs decided to go straight deep house with this mix, and tells us in his introduction:

I’m mostly known for doing uplifting and epic DJ sets, but today, for essential mix, I made something special for you. I selected 24 of my favorite, chill out deep house tracks, so no uplifting Tiesto set today, but just my favorite songs I like to listen to when I want to chill out

We’ve seen Tiesto go deep in his own podcast these past few months, and with this most recent special, a trend has certainly developed. His career has been comprised of trance and progressive mastery, while establishing the brand that is Tiesto. Always finding a new way to impress us, we are eager to see what’s coming next from this dance music legend. Let us know what you think as he takes us one deeper and be sure to peep the track-list after the break.

Flume & Chet Faker – Lockjaw (EP) [Release]

artworks-000063057715-h4uiwq-t500x500Australian artists Flume and Chet Faker have teamed up once again to produce a collaborative EP, titled “Lockjaw”. The EP consists of three tracks; “Drop The Game”, “What About Us”, and “This Song is Not About a Girl”. The two Aussies recently previewed the premiere track on the EP “Drop The Game” via sound cloud, along with an interesting music video. Flume and Chet’s Lockjaw EP offers a lot of musical diversity, with all three songs differing drastically from one another. Once again Flume has proven his ability to expand his musical range with his variation of production on the Lockjaw EP. The Australian producer has successfully maintained his more mainstream “What So Not” moniker, while simultaneously producing more artistic and underground music for his Flume alias.

Sam Smith, Nile Rodgers & Disclosure – Together [Release]

Disclosure and fellow lyricist Sam Smith, have teamed up with legendary guitarist Nile Rodgers for their latest collaboration titled “Together.” The new single is a lot more soulful and similar to a deep R&B than the duo’s typical tracks, but still maintains their signature garage feel and rhythm. No one could have guessed a year back that this duo would be working with legends like Nile but here we are nevertheless. Nile definitely adds an old school musical element to the track, which you would expect on a song from the 90′s, presumably what Disclosure was hoping for with the addition of his funky guitar and those magical vocals. This timeless tune now available for purchase via iTunes off of Method Music.
