Ultra set to remain in Miami through 2018 [News]

10003894_10152154208997739_6496756077288389268_n

This week, Miami Comissioner Marc Sarnoff and Mayor Thomas Regalado filed a “Resolution” to ban Ultra Music Festival from Bayfront Park, and made a video compiling the “worst of ultra” with clips of gatecrashers and fights, among other disturbing images. Sarnoff told CBS Miami, “The money that Ultra is spending is nothing more than blood money.” Clearly, Sarnoff and Mayor Regalado have a burning desire to get rid of Ultra, and eliminate any affiliation it has with the city of Miami.

Well, today you can all take a very deep breath, as Sarnoff and Regalado have withdrawn their “Resolution”. The overwhelming support from the Greater Miami and Beaches Hotel Association, Downtown Miami businesses and residents, and, of course, the rallying cry from Ultra fans all around the world have all contributed to this result. This will be an ongoing battle, as Sarnoff and Regalado have requested this issue to be “discussed” by the Miami City Commission on April 24th at 10AM.

While this may only seem to be a temporary victory, UMF will continue to have a home in Miami, as Ultra Organizers have an agreement with Bayfront Park to have the festival there through 2018 with the approval and consent of the Miami City Commission. Keep making your voices heard Ultranauts!

Bastille – Pompeii (Audien Remix) [Release]

1003602_10151939027806673_459145493_n

One of our favorite rising stars in Audien is back again with another fresh remix. After a busy MMW where he played 8 gigs in 6 days, including Ultra Music Festival and No Sugar Added at Nikki Beach, Mr. Rathburn will continue to be in the spotlight with this release. Nate’s progressive trance sound is not growing old on us in the slightest bit, and again he works his magic on ‘Pompeii’. He makes sure to keep the moving vocals of Bastille fully in tact, a trait about Audien we cannot help but love. While we’ve been bumping this edit since January, the full release is finally available on beatport now!

Lollapalooza 2014 Lineup Revealed [News]

Lollapalooza-608x405

The famed festival held in the heart of Chicago known as Lollapalooza is one of the US’s most popular music festivals year in and out. What started out solely as a rock music festival, has turned into one of the more diverse music events in the country now covering rap, alternative, and electronic music. The electronic side has grown the most in recent years, with more acts, and the addition of a dance music stage just a couple of years ago. Last year saw the talent of Steve Angello, Knife Party, Steve Aoki, Major Lazer, Dillon Francis, and Dada Life. While those were not all of the electronic acts last year, there’s even more in store for this year.

Accompanying headliners Eminem, Outkast, and Kings of Leon will be two other big names: Skrillex and Calvin Harris. Additionally, Above & Beyond, Krewella, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Zedd round out the top dance music names. Additional acts include Flosstradamus, Gramatik, Chromeo, Darkside, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Gesaffelstein, Flume, Martin Garrix, and Duke Dumont. Talk about variety, what more can you ask for?

Upon this massive lineup announcement, 3-day GA tickets sold out, and all of the single day passes were gone shortly after. While we are unsure of another ticket sale at a higher price level, you may already be making plans to get your hands on a Lolla wristband in any way, shape or form. You can see the full lineup after the break below. Hope to see you there!

Electric Zoo NY organizers hire lobbyist to help return the festival to Randall’s Island [News]

Following a cancellation for the last day of Electric Zoo NY 2013 due to drug related deaths, organizers of New York City’s most prominent festival have hired lobbyist Mike McKeon in hopes to receive permission to return to Randall’s Island this summer according to the Daily News. City lobbyist disclosure records show McKeon and others have reached out to Mayor de Blasio’s aides with assurances that additional safety measures have been implemented to ensure a smooth labor day weekend out on Randall’s Island.

After the molly overdoses of two college students last year (Jeffrey Ross 23, Olivia Rotondo 20), many have shunned the festival and called for its termination. Concerts around the country whether it be house music or any other genre have experienced similar unfortunate affairs however it seems like the haters are taking their anger out on Electric Zoo and hoping they can use it as an example of the “horrors” that come with electronic music. “I’m disappointed that the city is even considering the application considering what happened last year,” said Marina Ortiz, of E. Harlem Preservation Inc., whose neighborhood borders the festival.

I have personally attended dozens of festivals throughout my life and can assure that Electric Zoo and its organizers are the best in the business. What happened last year was a tragedy by all means but they should not be held responsible for the poor decisions of the festival goers. Lets hope that Mayor De Blasio helps return our beloved Zoo this summer at its true home here in New York City on Randall’s Island.

At one of these events, Armin previewed a brand new track ‘Ping Pong’, and with it came the release of large white balls surfing the crowd during his performance. Chris Lake @ Pacha NYC (03.22.14) [Event Recap]

1661775_10151905464596126_346216380_n

It was quite a treat to catch three of my favorite, super talented and super friendly DJ’s at Pacha NYC this past weekend. As part of promoting his new single in North America, Chris Lake took the decks at the legendary NYC megaclub with Moska and Helena. Lake has been up to big things, after completing his “Rising” Tour with TJR, Nom De Strip, and more in fall of 2013, he just released a catchy new single with a music video and another U.S. tour to match, “Helium.” Not to mention the charity event he just performed in California just days before this gig with Nervo, Michael Woods, Funkagenda, and more, to benefit the International Marine Mammal Project.
We kicked off the night with newcomer Moska, who is a Colombian California native who has been rising to fame since his collaboration remix with Tiesto last year.

His electro set featured some crowd favorites like Axwell’s “Nothing But Love” but ranged to more obscure remixes such as one of Fake Blood’s “I Think I Like It” which is an old favorite of mine. Chris Lake played his usual hits, of course his latest production “Helium” and more notably his fresh new remix of Indiana’s “Solo Dancing,” which is a great new tune. He took it deeper with a few tracks such as London Grammar’s “Hey Now” and even back oldschool with Pink Floyd’s “Brick In The Wall.” The night wouldn’t have been complete without a photo with the man himself, and then DJ Helena closed out the night.

Afrojack makes an unforgettable Hakkasan LV debut [News]

© Al Powers, PowersImagery.com

When Hakkasan grabbed a bunch of new artists to stack their residency list, they made sure to get one of the bigger names in dance music in Afrojack. Well, the time finally came this past friday for the Dutch master to grace his presence at the hot MGM Grand nightclub.

© Al Powers, PowersImagery.com

With anticipation building from the crowd, Afrojack hopped on the decks during primetime, around 1:30. He wasted no time wowing the crowd with his music, and added to the allure of the first “Afrojack experience” at Hakkasan was the appearance of two male contortionists. During his set, a dozen of Hakkasan Nightclub’s cocktail waitresses joined Nick in the booth to present him a rather large bottle of champagne. In classic fashion, Afrojack took the bottle and sprayed it all over the crowd. Additionally, two new LED screens were unveiled at the rather popular club, which displayed stunning graphics and imagery. Just the first of many Afrojack events to take over nights at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas is in for a treat for the months to come.

Carange & Junkie Kid – Krakatoa [Release]

artworks-000073329898-65fyw9-t500x500

Perfectly aligned with the kickoff for festival season, ‘Krakatoa’ is sure to be the next main stage hit all across the globe. Teaming up for this banger is trap-master Carnage and Junkie Kid. This could be one of the hardest tracks to ever come out of Carnage’s arsenal and we are all for it. While we are fairly new to Junkie Kid, we know Carnage mostly for his trap repertorie and Chipotle antics, but there is one thing that is certain, these two are a winning combo. Released via Tiesto’s Musical Freedom records, grab this festival-anthem on beatport now and be sure to turn up your speakers for this one.

Vicetone ft. Chloe Angelides – White Lies [Release]

9166967

Coming off a breakout 2013, Vicetone has a major release to bring on to the scene in 2014. Protocol Recordings head Nicky Romero, has had nothing but praise for the this duo, and they will continue to attract attention to the label. ‘White Lies’. Just like Tony Romera’s ‘Pandor’ was a big WMC hit last year, we predict similar success for this tune. Another classic progressive beat from Ruben and Victor, the boys couple their sound with the lovely vocals of Chloe Angelides. It will be a busy Miami weekend for the Dutch duo, as they will spin at the Protocol Reboot Miami party Thursday, Nikki Beach’s “No Sugar Added” on Friday, and an Ultra performance on Saturday.
